Joint Evaluation Team

As part of the institutional process to prepare for ongoing budget reductions, college and school deans, as well as vice presidential divisions, were asked to identify programs for elimination, reorganization or modification. These recommendations, using the below criteria, had been forwarded to the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost and are now currently under review by the university's Joint Evaluation Team (JET). This team is comprised of administrators, faculty, and faculty senate representation including undergraduate and graduate student representatives. It is the team's intent to provide recommendations to the president by the end of the Fall semester. In an effort to keep the campus involved in this continuing process, we are posting the dean and vice president recommendations to this web site.

If you have any questions on this process, please contact Dr. Michael Bowers, Executive Vice President and Provost, at provostofc@unlv.edu.

CRITERIA:

  1. The Deans and Vice Presidents, in consultation with the appropriate leadership groups and faculty in their units evaluate the programs in their unit in high, middle and low performing/priority groups.
  2. The Deans (or VPs) prepare recommendations for elimination or reorganization of low performing programs, including a plan for relocation of faculty/staff in any units that are being eliminated.
  3. The Deans (or VPs) consult with the impacted programs and executive teams and receive a vote from faculty of the impacted units supporting or not supporting their proposed actions.
  4. The recommendations, along with records of consultation are forwarded to the Joint Evaluation Team (JET).
  5. The JET assesses all the recommendations for elimination or reorganization of units from deans and VPs. They ensure that consultation has occurred and may request additional information as needed to support their recommendation.
  6. The JET prepares a recommendation for program elimination or modification along with their vote supporting or not supporting the Dean/VP action.
  7. These are transmitted to the EVP&P and Cabinet for comment and consideration, and are then forwarded to the President for final recommendation.
  8. Programs that the President recommends for reorganization/elimination are then advanced to the BoR for approval of the President's recommendations.
