Michael W. Bowers assumed the position of Vice Provost for Academic Affairs on January 1, 2004. Prior to becoming Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, Dr. Bowers served as chair of the Department of Political Science and for eleven years as associate dean of the College of Liberal Arts.
Dr. Bowers received a bachelor's degree in history from Cameron University (Lawton, OK) and a master's and Ph.D. in political science from the University of Arizona (Tucson). He has been a member of the faculty at UNLV since August 1984. During that time he has been awarded the College of Liberal Arts William Morris Award for Excellence in Teaching and the Donald Schmiedel Lifetime Service Award, in addition to the UNLV Alumni Association Distinguished Faculty Award and the UCCSN Board of Regents Outstanding Advisor Award. As a professor of political science, Dr. Bowers has published two books (one of which is in a second edition) and more than two dozen articles and chapters in his specialization of public law.
