UNLV Distance Education (DE)

Distance Education courses are regular university courses in which there is no face-to-face instruction.

The Office of Distance Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, was established in 1996 to develop and deliver educational programs to southern Nevada's rapidly growing communities using distance education technologies. The mission of the Office is to provide learning opportunities that are less restricted by time and place than are UNLV courses and programs scheduled on campus.

DE at UNLV developed as a result of Nevada's prior commitment to extended education and UNLV's desire to respond to community needs. Over time, an electronic network emerged and degree programs were initiated. Currently, all of our DE courses utilize WebCampus (UNLV’s course management system) and most use streaming video.

DE at UNLV strives to:

  • Increase educational access for students unable to attend classes on campus.
  • Fully utilize the resources of the university.
  • Enhance instruction by integrating technology into the curriculum.
