Dr. Neal J. Smatresk received his Ph.D. in zoology from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980. Following post-doctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, he joined the University of Texas, Arlington (UTA) department of biology in 1982. In his 22 years at UTA, he served as chair of biology and later dean of science, until his appointment as the chief academic officer at the University of Hawaii at Manoa in 2004. During his tenure, the university entered the ranks of the top 25 federally funded institutions, gained three National Academy of Science members, and received recognition from the Chinese Ministry of Education as a Confucius Institute, an honor shared by only 11 other U.S. institutions. He has received a number of teaching awards, and his research in cardiorespiratory physiology has resulted in over 50 papers and book chapters, and grants from the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health.
In addition to his teaching and administrative roles, Smatresk has devoted considerable effort to kindergarten to doctorate (K-20) science outreach programs and teacher professional development and has participated in a number of consortia focused on science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) career development. He has been deeply engaged in community college articulation efforts in Texas and Hawaii and has worked to expand educational opportunity and access for underserved populations in both states. Most recently he was awarded, as one of three co-principal investigators, a $1.7 million National Science Foundation Louise Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation grant to improve access of Hawaiian and Pacific Island students interested in science and engineering careers.

In his role as Assistant Provost, Dr. Tredup serves as the chief of staff for the Executive Vice President and Provost. As a member of the Executive Vice President and Provost's senior leadership team, the Assistant Provost provides guidance and support to the executive vice president and provost, vice provosts, and other academic administrators in a variety of areas. This includes: participating in the management of procedural compliance for the academic operations of the university with campus, System, Board of Regents, and State guidelines; coordinating strategic planning and implementation; managing a large number of special projects; and handling communications with campus, community and NSHE constituencies.
Fred's affiliation with UNLV spans a period of thirty-three years; during the years between 1973 and 1985 he held a progression of administrative positions within student life, culminating in his role as Asst. Dean of Students. He joined corporate enterprise in 1985 as senior vice president for an international manufacturer and traveled extensively throughout Southeast Asia before returning to UNLV in 2003. Fred holds a B.S. in Education, a M.S. in Counseling, and an Ed.D. in Higher Education Administration.

As Program Officer, Ms. Seda is responsible for managing the promotion and tenure process for the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. She also manages the process for the Sabbatical Leave and Faculty Development Leave programs within the office. The Program Officer also processes documents associated with promotion and tenure and merit grievances, in addition to coordinating requests for special tenure consideration (hire with tenure, early tenure, tenure delay).
Prior to joining the university, Debi was a member of the United States Air Force and traveled throughout Europe. After returning to the civilian workforce, she was employed in banking operations before joining the UNLV community in 2001 where she is also pursuing a bachelors degree.

Ms. Peacock is the Office Manager for the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost. Her responsibilities to the Executive Vice President and Provost include serving as the official leave keeper for all of the direct reports, planning and coordinating events hosted by him, managing the process for the annual evaluation of faculty members, managing and maintaining office databases, in addition to coordinating travel arrangements. The Office Manager also provides the clerical support operations of the office including the supervision of student employees.
Lana has more than thirty years experience in office administration, including prior experience in the office of the Superintendent of Morehead, Kentucky public schools, and also with the Head Start program in Owensboro, Kentucky. She joined the UNLV community in 1990 and has served in several administrative support capacities which have provided her with extensive knowledge of campus operations.

As the web and multimedia specialist for the Office of the Executive Vice President and Provost, Mr. Russ Harrison is responsible for the management and development of web related projects, in addition to designing content management systems for UNLV Web Communications. This position is also responsible for the design and facilitation of multi-media content accompanying presentations given by members of the Executive Vice President and Provost's senior staff. Russ also provides expertise for streamlining office processes through the integration of new software into the work environment.
Prior to joining the UNLV community in the fall of 2005, Russ spent six years at California University of Pennsylvania, during which time he served as the webmaster for the department of athletics before becoming Assistant Webmaster of the university. Russ holds a B.A. degree in Communication and a M.S. degree in Multimedia Technology.
